Bryan finally arrived in Franklin yesterday afternoon. Boy was I glad to see him! I’ve been struggling on my own with the boys “in transition” for most of the week. He graciously took over most of the parenting duties for the rest of the day. (Thanks honey!) We also had a lot of folks from Brentwood Hills and Otter Creek come out to help us unload the truck. Thanks everyone!
We love our new townhouse! The floors downstairs are hardwood. The kitchen is much bigger. (I know I mentioned that before, but it’s so great that I needed to repeat that fact.) The place is just nicer and cleaner than the Dallas pad. Yeah! We are definitely counting our blessings. We had planned to stay the night last night, but the heat was not working. So, we stayed another night with our friends, the Cliffords. Hopefully, the energy company can solve the issue today and we can sleep there tonight!
I had plans to enroll the boys in school on Friday, but it was cancelled due to “extreme temperatures”. I guess they don’t want children to turn into ice cubes. Today, is MLK holiday and Tuesday is a staff development day. At this point it looks like Wednesday will be the first day of school. I’ll give you all an update when it happens.
Yesterday, we visited a local congregation with our friends. Isaac reported that 5 boys in his class had iTouch devices. Wow! He said they were also playing games on them during Bible class. I think this is just a glimpse of what lies ahead for our boys in terms of dealing with “stuff”.
Continue to keep us in your prayers. Much love, T
Congrats on your move and your beautiful new home. A bigger kitchen is definitely something to celebrate!
I’d like to say “I can’t believe that!” about the kids playing with their iPods during Bible class, but as a parent and as a teacher, I’ve found it’s a constant struggle to balance the benefits of new technology with the tendency of today’s youth to “disconnect” from real people the more they interface with their gadgets. We try to limit our kids’ time with video games and computers (and they definitely won’t be getting a cell phone or an iTouch anytime soon!), but at the same time, I want them to know how to use the resources that are available through up-to-date technology and not be missing a skill set when they get into the working world, which relies on it so heavily.
As you can see, I’m still figuring it out!
Hi Katrina! Thanks so much your comment. I’m glad that I’m not the only one thinking this issue through! I have a confession to make. I had your blog on my google reader feed and was regularly reading your posts. Then, for some reason I stopped getting them. Instead of investigating (going directly to your blog) I thought that you had simply become too busy with teaching to write much. I was proved wrong today when I finally went to your blog! I’m glad to see that you are still writing. It was good to catch up with you too. Blessings to you friend!
So glad to hear Bryan got there okay and you have gotten things unloaded. Can’t wait to see pictures! About the technology – even though our church is small, we are having the same issues. I have a ‘no iPod’ rule in my Sunday School class, but we have had a real issue with teens texting during worship services. I agree wholeheartedly with Katrina – it is a hard balancing act. We are praying fervently for the job situation and the start up of school for the boys. Say hi to Aunt Becky when you get a chance to see her.
Love you all!
Lesa, I should post some pictures on my blog of our new place..thanks for the reminder! I hope that you make a trip out soon…it’s a three-for-one trip. Sister, son and grandkids!!! (Then there’s me too.) By the way, we are enjoying your blackberry jam! Love you too.
So I want to know if the boys are enjoying the snow since they didn’t have school today.
Look forward to hearing more — hope their first day went well.
