Home Again

Tracey at Turtle Bay, KenyaMy trip to Kenya was fantastic!!! The weather was beautiful in Nairobi. We wore sweatshirts at night. That’s a real treat coming from 100 degree plus Togo! At the renewal it was hot, but the beauty of the Indian Ocean made up for it. I enjoyed reconnecting with many old friends, making new friends and being encouraged by incredible women of God. Our topic of study for the week was the book of Philippians. I loved learning more about the struggles of the Christians in Philippi and Paul’s response to them. It’s incredible to me how God’s word is still applicable to our lives today.

I’ve struggled the past couple of days upon my return to Kara. It’s taken me a little by surprise. I feel in many ways how I typically do after I return from the States. The poverty, dirtiness, dryness, heat, and stress have hit me hard. I didn’t prepare myself since I figured…Kenya is in Africa too! But, in reality the two countries are very different.

I am happy to be home again. I sure did miss my boys!!!

Graham’s Seven!!!

We celebrated Graham’s 7th birthday today with our team friends. His actual birthday is March 1st. He patiently waited for today to have a party. G wanted a bike themed party for the third time. He also wanted a repeat of the cake I made for his 2nd birthday. However, this year was different because we carted all of the bikes up to the RPT building. It has a huge parking lot and no cars. So, it’s ideal for bike riding compared to the rocky dirt paths on which they usually ride.

Then after about 45 minutes of riding in the hot sun, we returned to our house for cake, presents and swimming. We pulled out our new pool and shared the excitement with the Reeves kids and Caden. Graham is pictured in his new Iowa Basketball uniform a gift from us.

I am so proud of Graham! He is a tenderhearted, athletic, and curious seven year old! I love you!!!!

Pendjari Safari

We’re back from a great safari! The big news is that we saw 4 lions right after a buffalo kill. Our family hung out and watched these lions for 2 1/2 hours! We watched them guard their prey from each other and vultures. It was amazing and intense! Later on, we saw two packs of elephants, hippos, crocodiles, baboons, brightly colored birds, antelope and a snake. This being Owen’s first safari he was excited at every animal sighting. He’s one cool dude!

Cool Owen

I’ll post pictures on my photos page later on. So, check back soon!!!
